CROSS PLAINS, Tenn. – A bike ride to the store turned deadly for a 65 year old Sumner County woman after being hit by an SUV.
Beverly Sloan loved the great outdoors and having lots of friends. Evelyn Covington was one of them. "She loves animals, gardening, and people," said Covington. “ She's a talker who will talk to anybody and make friends in a matter of minutes. She's just a well-loved, well liked person."
Sloan was also very passionate about exercise. She had a driver’s license, but Covington said she preferred to walk or ride her bicycle.
"When she lived in Goodlettsville, she walked to Nashville," she said. "She had no hesitation taking off walking anywhere she wanted to go."
Tuesday evening Beverly decided to ride her bike to the store. That trip was her last.
Police said she was hit by an SUV just feet from her driveway. Covington said she couldn’t stop thinking about all the things she'll miss. "Her stopping by to visit just to have coffee," she said. "Going out petting the animals, sitting under the shade tree, talking and listening to the rolling stones."
No charges have yet been filed against the 65-year-old driver. Police said alcohol nor speed were a factor, and it appeared that Sloan might have veered onto the roadway.
While Covington said they may never know all the details, one day later, they knew the pain of Sloan's loss. "I'm going to miss her, really miss her," she said.
