FRANKLIN, Ky. (WTVF) — The body of a missing Gallatin man has been recovered days after his vehicle was located in floodwaters in Kentucky.
Simpson County officials said the body of 37-year-old Durrone Vernon Moore was recovered around 7 p.m. Thursday. His vehicle was found days earlier on Cal Harris Road.
Wednesday police started a search of the water and continued through Thursday until they located the man's body about 40 yards from where his vehicle had been.
The night of Moore's death, it was 14 degrees outside and there was a thin layer of ice on the water.
The passenger side window of the vehicle had been broken, but police suspect that was caused by water pressure.
The driver's side door was also open and this is how police believe Moore was able to escape the car.
According to Simpson County Sheriff Captain Steve Chappel it is hard to know what happened that led to Moore's death. Since the area where he was found is isolated and there are no street lights, it is possible that Moore got out of the car and was immediately disoriented by the cold water.
He may not have headed the right way when he was exiting the car. Still deputies are not sure how the car got into the water in the first place.
They do not suspect foul play.
“Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of mourning,” the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
Moore was reported missing after he phoned his girlfriend Monday night. Gallatin police said at the time, the call indicated he may have been in distress.
