Gay Marriage Advocates Hope Court Rules Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - All eyes have been on the Supreme Court. Many anticipate Friday will be the day the court issues its ruling on gay marriage.

Two other landmark gay rights rulings have been issued on June 26th, and the court added this day as an extra to issue opinions.

The justices still have five cases to rule on before the end of their term next week.

Vanderbilt law professor Brian Fitzpatrick was in Washington, D.C. for the arguments in April.

He said the ruling could come Friday, but since it was one of the last argued it could likely be saved until Monday.

"They didn't get started on that one until very late in the term, so I could see them taking longer on that one than any other case," Fitzpatrick said.

Jesse Ehrenfeld and partner Judd Harly are also watching the court closely.

In the last month they have found themselves as the face of the fight for same sex marriage in Tennessee.

Ehrenfeld and Harly appeared in a TV ad that aired statewide urging support for same sex marriage.

"It’s not just an issue of inequality," Ehrenfeld said. "It’s a very practical issue. When I was in Afghanistan for nine months I knew if something happened to me Judd wouldn’t have the same protections as straight couples, the other soldiers who were there with me."

Rulings come out at 10 a.m. Eastern time.
