SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WTVF) — His long, sad eyes and nearly naked body would make you think that Valentine the Golden Retriever wouldn't be the happiest of dogs, but nothing could be further from the truth.

He weighs barely 40 pounds, when the two-year-old pup was found abandoned at a park in Camden last week, a veterinarian could tell it had likely been days since he'd been fed. And yet Valentine seems incredibly happy.

"When you see this pitiful dog that has probably been on his own, you will be amazed to see the type of spirit this dog has," says Meredithe Hyjek who is fostering Valentine.

Valentine is currently under the care of Adopt a Golden. The rescue organization is trying to raise money for Valentine's vet bills which will likely be hundreds if not thousands of dollars. It's unclear how long Valentine had been abandoned for but he currently has about 95 percent of the hair missing from his body. He's heart worm positive and is so thin that he doesn't have any muscle tone.

Still though, the rescue organizations is hopeful that within the next four to five months they'll be able to find Valentine a new home. Even if Valentine's Day has passed.

"He's a remarkable little soul."
