NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A man is facing charges after police say he left his 23-month-old great-nephew inside a car parked at a fast food restaurant so he could buy cocaine.

Metro Police were called to the North Nashville restaurant in the 1500 block of Hampton Street after the child was found inside a car with the windows down and the keys left behind.

The boy was taken into the restaurant by workers.

When Shawn Barber returned to the car, police said he admitted to leaving the child alone while he went somewhere else to buy cocaine.

The child's mother told police Barber had come to her apartment to watch her son while she went to pick up her other children from school. Barber left the home with his great-nephew unrestrained in the car.

The child was taken to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital where he was checked out and doing ok.

Barber is charged with felony child neglect.
