Murfreesboro city officials broke ground on a new $48 million police headquarters located on Highland Avenue.
A groundbreaking was held Friday. The current headquarters is 40 years old. The new site was set to renovate and use land once used as the local hospital and medical center before the big move to Gateway.
“We are making the cautious effort about not just building something new. We are looking at improving something that’s been such a source of pride in our community,” said Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland.
The old police headquarters was set to be used by other city departments who need additional space.
The project should be finished by 2017.
