Group Helps Bail Black Mothers Out Of Jail

Posted

Just in time for Mother's Day, a grass roots organization has been working to bail some black women out of jail.

Organizers with the non-profit group Southerners On New Ground held an event outside the South Police Precinct in Nashville.

Group members said poor black women are more likely to be incarcerated than white women, and they’re often unable to pay bail and are in need of help.

The group bailed out two mothers Saturday in Nashville, and they planned to bail out two more on Sunday.

Several other southern cities have been holding similar events.
