FRANKLIN, Tenn (WTVF) — While minding their own business at lunch, a group of women experienced an unexpected act of kindness and they want to say thank you.

Every other month, Ann Roebuck and her friends get together for food and conversation. This month, they dined in at Connors Steak and Seafood in Franklin and lunch tasted sweeter this go round.

"But today was a little different. Today, half-way through our meal we were surprised, and the waitress told us that a patron had picked up our check," said Roebuck.

Someone paid for their meals and even the tip, and the random act of kindness caught these 16 women off guard.

"It was really a shock, and a surprise and very overwhelming that somebody would do that for us," said Roebuck who said it was enough to brighten their day, knowing at times they've suffered some dark nights.

They are all cancer survivors, and Roebuck says in the 12 years the group of women have been getting together, something like this has never happened to them before.

The total came to $231.16 and the good Samaritan left before the group could say thank you, but they didn't want to let the chance go by without trying.

"We all wanted to say thank you in some way, and we all decided that we should just pay it forward," said Roebuck who will pay it forward by making port pillows for people going through chemo therapy.

She says the pillows will help prevent the seat belt from rubbing against their ports.
