A newly-married bride was arrested after she allegedly fired a gunshot in the air and even pointed the gun at her groom.
According to police, 25-year-old newlywed Kate Elizabeth Prichard hadn't even made it out of her wedding dress before getting into handcuffs.
"Responding officers let the husband know the honeymoon was over and his new wife was going to jail," said Sgt. Kyle Evans with the Murfreesboro Police Department.
He said officers made the arrest after responding to a very unusual call at the Clarion Inn.
They arrived to find Prichard and her new husband arguing at the motel just a few hours after they were married.
"Both were very uncooperative with authorities. It was actually a witness who pointed us in the right direction," said Evans.
That witness told police the couple had been drinking and arguing outside the motel. Things escalated and what Prichard allegedly did next shocked everyone.
"She pulled out of her wedding dress a 9 mm pistol. Pointed it at her new husband's head and pulled the trigger," said Evans.
The gun did not discharge and it wasn't loaded, but the witness told police Prichard then loaded a round in the chamber and fired a shot in the air causing everyone to run from the scene.
When police arrived on the scene, they first questioned the newlyweds who said nothing was wrong.
However after talking to witnesses police recovered a shell casing and found what they believed to be Prichard's weapon.
"After the incident, she went to the bathroom and disposed of the weapon hiding it in the bathroom," said Evans.
Prichard was charged with aggravated domestic assault.
The bride did post a $15,000 bond. NewsChannel 5 was unable to reach her or her new husband. Murfreesboro Police officials said the case will be sent to the Grand Jury.
Additional charges against her could be pending.
