A new law will allow guns on college campuses including Tennessee State University.
Full-time university employees in Tennessee with a carry permit will be able to have a concealed weapon on campus.
TSU officials said their biggest task is making sure everyone who registers is compliant with the law.
Applicants must be full time employees, must not be enrolled as a current or future student and have completed a notification of intent to carry a concealed handgun Form.
Once completed, it'll be reviewed by TSU police. So far, 3 have applied and they’ve all been approved.
“My job is to make sure that the individuals that are applying are compliant from the police department from the university standpoint and what we're going to do is to offer some educational aspects to that as well,” said Gregory Robinson.
That means they're going to go over the do's and don'ts of carrying a handgun on campus and where they can and cannot be carried.
Metro police is handling those employees of universities that don't have campus police. I'm told 2 people have registered with Metro so far.
The bill is a little more popular on the campus of the University of Tennessee - 18 employees have registered there.
