Hepatitis C Spreads Through TN Prisons

A state representative said Hepatitis C has been spread within the Tennessee prison system, and called it "a viral time bomb" that will hit our communities.

Livingston Democrat John Mark Windle held a news conference Monday saying he wanted his constituents to work with medical professionals and the Department of Corrections to enact some type of protocol to keep inmates and employees safe.

Representative Windle said recent numbers show that nearly half of the nearly 900 inmates tested, tested positive for Hepatitis C.

He says 90% of Tennessee inmates would be released, but it could also spread to neighborhoods by infecting prison workers.
