NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The USDA is rolling out a plan to make sure SNAP recipients are taken care of as the government shutdown continues.
The USDA is working with states earlier than usual to make sure people get their benefits for February.
Here’s what recipients need to know:
- If you need to renew your benefits for next month, your paperwork needs to be in by 6:30 p.m. Monday. If you make that deadline, you'll get next month's money by the end of this week.
- If you are not renewing or didn't get notification from the Department of Human Services to submit additional documents, you don't need to do anything.
Other nutrition programs are also expected to have funding, such as school lunches and after-school meals.
Applicants can submit their paperwork online here or at any of the state offices on Monday.
The USDA recommends people be more mindful in spending of their SNAP benefits since they may need to stretch it out longer than usual.
