Highway Worker Struck, Killed By Asphalt Truck In East Tennessee

Posted

A highway construction worker who was struck by a tanker truck carrying asphalt has died in Tennessee.

Soddy-Daisy Commissioner Rick Nunley said that the worker was struck Thursday morning on a Highway 111 on-ramp. Tennessee Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn says the deceased wasn't a department employee, but might be a contract worker on a paving project.

The truck also rolled onto its side, spilling asphalt into the roadway. The truck driver's condition is unclear.

The crash blocked the highway's southbound lane.

No identities have been released.
