NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An alleged drunken joy-ride ended for a hit-and-run suspect, all thanks to a grocery store security guard.
Officials with Metro police said 28-year-old Emmanuel Omal was arrested in a Kroger parking lot after a security guard spotted him driving erratically.
According to police, Omal came close to hitting several cars and several people, as well.
When officers got to the grocery store, they quickly realized Omal was the suspect in a hit-and-run earlier in the night. His car reportedly had damage consistent with a crash.
Omal said he drove off from the collision because his car was having mechanical issues. However, as officers spoke with him more, they began to realize Omal could have been drunk.
He reportedly failed sobriety tests on the scene.
Police said he’s been caught driving drunk twice before. Omal was apparently supposed to be driving with an ignition interlock device, but that was nowhere to be found.
Omal refused to submit a breathalyzer, so police took him to an area hospital for a blood test.
He is awaiting the results of that test at the Metro jail on a $35,000 bond.
