NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Hundreds of seventh graders stayed home Monday because they still don't have the required Tennessee Immunization Certificate.

According to Metro Public Schools there are 826 seventh graders  out of the nearly 4,700 enrolled who still don't have the required Tennessee Immunization Certificate.

The numbers for two other middle schools and most charter schools have yet to come in but according to Joe Bass, spokesman for Metro Public Schools,  we're doing better than last year

"This time last year, we were at 24%, so this is a major improvement over last year. We still have a lot of students left to get the certificate, but this is progress" said Bass.

Metro Schools sent a letter to parents last Monday to let them know of Friday's deadline.  One parent said she never got the letter but she did get a phone call. Another man at the Metro Health Clinic downtown Nashville said he was aware of the deadline but with 7 children and a full-time job it was hard to get it done.

Parents can still take their children to any Metro Health Clinicto get the required certificate.
