NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro Police say what started as a robbery outside Green Hills Mall ended with a deadly shooting, a crashed car and a closed interstate on Tuesday. It happened just off Interstate 440 at the I-65 exit in South Nashville.
Metro Police spokesman Don Aaron says it appears a shopper was robbed by two people in the parking lot of Green Hills Mall Tuesday afternoon.
It's unclear exactly what happened but police say it appears one of the robbers was shot when the victim tried to fight them off.
Even though he was shot, police say the man somehow managed to drive down Hillsboro Pike onto I-440 and down to exit 5 where you get onto I-65.
Police say the driver eventually crashed the car just off the exit to I-65. The passenger jumped out of the car and took off running. Police say he tossed a gun over an embankment but was quickly arrested.
The driver was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he died.
Police are still looking for the shopper who was robbed at the mall. They say he is a victim but detectives still need to talk to them to find out what happened. If you have any information about the robbery or shooting, please call Metro Police or CrimeStoppers at 615-74-CRIME.
