Ice Skating Event Benefits Cancer Foundation

In a town that is known for music and is obsessed with hockey, "An Evening with Scott Hamilton & Friends" at Bridgestone Arena seems like a perfect fit.

"The level of skating is so explosive and so exciting, and then you've got this beautiful music going on at the same time with the lights and the video screens," Scott Hamilton, Olympic gold medalist, cancer survivor, and philanthropist, said of the event, adding that it provides an atmosphere that can only be experienced in person. "When you see somebody leave the ice right in front of you and they spin around three times in the air and land on one foot like nothing happened, it's just sort of like, whoa!"

While the event revolves around the music and the skating, to Hamilton, it's about more than the entertainment, but on the education and fundraising efforts through the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation. (https://scottcares.org/)

"One in two men will have cancer, one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer, and the main thing is: early detection is key," Hamilton explained.

Hamilton has battled cancer numerous times and won, but he was again diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor leading up to the Nashville event.

Just like each time before, Hamilton said he is ready to fight the cancer until he defeats it.

"After the storm, something great happens," Hamilton said, adding that each time he's beat cancer, he's become a better person for it.

While Hamilton hopes he and the others involved in the event can help educate about cancer and raise money to help others fighting cancer, he also wants to provide an unforgettable experience to those who attend, which he is doing not just by bringing world-class skaters, but also world-class musicians, like Sheryl Crow.

“As a cancer survivor, when I told her we were doing this in Nashville, I just saw her face light up," Hamilton said of Crow. "The only thing I know is, when people walk out, they're gonna go, 'Holy cow! That was awesome!'"

Tickets are still available for the event, and if you use the promo code "SMILE", you can get two tickets for the price of one. (http://www.ticketmaster.com/an-evening-with-scott-hamilton-nashville-tennessee-11-20-2016/event/1B0050D1E7B68EC3?artistid=804276&majorcatid=10003&minorcatid=22)
