CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — It’s been two decades since a large tornado hit Clarksville, forever changing the lives of its residents.
Tuesday marks 20 years since the F3 storm tore through Clarksville just before daybreak, destroying a large part of the downtown area -- the EF scale replaced the F scale in 2007.
In all, around 124 buildings destroyed, including the historic Trinity Episcopal Church.
Austin Peay University's campus was also damaged. About 22 buildings at the campus were ruined and multiple 100-year-old trees were uprooted.
In all, the storm caused millions of dollars of damage on the campus. In the months to follow, they held benefit concerts to re-build and even replaced historic parts of the campus, like Austin Peay's Bosendorfer piano.
