James Shaw, Jr. was honored with a plaque from the New Order National Human Rights Organization.
The CEO of the organization, Gerald Emerson Rose, came to Nashville from Atlanta to present the plaque to Shaw Sunday.
Shaw was presented with the plaque at the end of services at Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church.
The plaque read: "For his brave and courageous act of disarming a man who opened fire in a Waffle House in Tennessee."
Rose also went to the Waffle House in Antioch where the shooting took place to speak with the employees and visit the memorial site.
Shaw also released through social media that the victims' families received the money raised through gofundme.
