The jury is expected to resume deliberations in the trial of a former Vanderbilt University football player accused of rape.

Jurors spent six hours considering a verdict in the Brandon Banks trial before they called it a night on Thursday. Deliberations are expected to resume at 9 a.m.

On Thursday, both sides delivered their final, closing arguments to the jury, who will ultimately decide whether Banks is guilty of raping a female student in June of 2013.

Brandon Vandenburg and Cory Batey have already been convicted of rape and sentenced to prison in the case.

Throughout the trial, defense attorneys painted a picture of a young college football player, continually tormented by his teammates because they thought he was gay.

However, the prosecution said that argument was an excuse.

The jury deliberated until 8 p.m., but decided to continue deliberations Friday morning and left the courthouse without a verdict.

NewsChannel 5 will have continuous coverage throughout the day.
