The Kentucky Department of Agriculture has cracked down on credit card skimmers across the state.
During annual inspections, gas station inspectors not only checking gas quality but also card skimmers. With over 60,000 gas pumps across the Commonwealth only fifteen inspectors are thoroughly looking inside to check for skimming devices.
The card skimmers can be discretely installed and collect credit card information from every driver as they swipe to pay for gas.
Some devices also used Bluetooth to remotely steal information. Law enforcement recommended checking the seals on outer edges of the pump. And if tampered, to report to the gas station attendant immediately.
