FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVF) — Governor Andy Beshear announced the death of a 50-year-old woman due to COVID-19. She is the first health care worker in the state to die from the illness.
He said she worked at an Adair County nursing home.
She is one of the 115 deaths from the Coronavirus in Kentucky. The state has a total of 2,210 confirmed cases as of Tuesday.
Beshear said said he would have bought 10 million of every piece of personal protective equipment if he were able, but it's just not possible. He said they've had some success in acquiring PPE for health care workers but it hasn't been enough.
Kentuckians have also had issues receiving unemployment benefits. More than 521,000 unemployment claims have been filed since the middle of March.
Beshear said that may be due to the high volume of claims and a 13-15 day window since filing hasn’t passed.
