(WTVF) — After days of radio silence, two Tennessee women are reportedly safe in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian.
According to CBS affiliate WVLT in Knoxville, Pam Mobley and Joann Coakley were vacationing on the Abaco Islands when the hurricane turned their way. They decided to stay because Mobley, a doctor, wanted to help due to the limited health care.
“The only medical person on the island who was a nurse left to be with her family which left Pam to be the only medical person there within 60 miles of the Abacos,” said Ed Mobley.
The storm damaged communication systems in the area, making it difficult to check on people.
The women last contacted their family around Sunday afternoon right as the storm was starting to hit. By Tuesday, they got word back to family they are okay. No one has spoken to them directly yet.
