Temporary one-lane closures are expected on Newfound Gap Road at Great Smoky Mountains National Park starting Tuesday.
The park said in a news release that the closures will occur on a 1.8-mile stretch of roadway between Sugarlands Visitor Center and Carlos Campbell Overlook for paving operations.
Flagging operations will direct traffic through the work zones. Charles Blalock and Sons of Sevierville will pave the road under a contract managed by Estes Brothers Construction of Jonesville, Virginia.
Motorists should expect weekday single-lane closures and traffic delays throughout the project. Contractors may work during evening and nighttime hours.
The paving work is expected to take two days to complete, followed by road shouldering and striping operations. The entire project should be complete by June 15. Schedules may be revised, depending on weather.
