NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — New DNA evidence could reveal the truth behind a 1985 murder case.

Sedley Alley was convicted and sentenced to death for the rape and murder of 19-year-old Susanne Collins in Millington - just outside Memphis.

Alley confessed, but later said the confession was coerced. He was executed in 2006, but his defense claimed that the court failed to review all evidence.

A pair of the killer's underwear was found at the crime scene but was never tested for DNA - a test that Alley's daughter says could have proved her father's innocence.

Alley's attorneys and daughter have partnered with The Innocence Project and are asking again for the state to run the DNA test.

This latest effort comes after an investigator in a St. Louis murder case contacted them about a possible alternative suspect in Collin's murder.
