The Listening Room hosted songwriters and music fans for the last time at their 2nd Avenue location Friday night, leaving the building for a new spot on 4th Avenue due to their lease expiring.
“It’s gonna be sad to close the doors down there tonight and be the last time that people play on that stage, but to know that in just a couple weeks we’re going to be able to open this up and start a whole new chapter of this journey, I mean, I can’t even tell you man,” Chris Blair, owner and general manager of The Listening Room, said on Friday.
The new location is in the historic International Harvester Tractor building, which is twice the size of the 2nd Avenue location, but the space is separated into multiple rooms, including the “Listening Room” where the music will be played, as well as a restaurant/lounge that visitors can hang out in before and after shows.
“If you’re coming to a later show and the early show is going on where typically you wouldn’t be able to get in and you’re standing outside in the rain and all that type of thing, now you can just come in, go up to the bar, grab yourself a drink, hang out, and then when the show is over, we’ll do that flip,” Blair explained.
The restaurant/lounge area will also host lunch during the week and brunch on the weekend, both of which are new additions to The Listening Room.
Final preparations are still underway at the new location, but their grand opening of the new location is scheduled for October 14th.
