Middle Tennesseans have come together to help people impacted by the hurricanes in the Caribbean.
A donation drive was held Saturday at the Faith Hope and Love Fellowship church in Antioch.
Pastor John Jno-Finn grew up in Dominica and has known the prime minister and other government officials on the island.
"They appointed me as the leader for this area to collect relief for people. We're an official relief center," he said.
Jno-Finn came to the states about 30 years ago. He was an undergraduate at American Baptist College, received his master's degree at Tennessee State University, and earned a doctorate degree at Vanderbilt University. He's now a pastor full-time with the church.
He said hurricane victims back home need dry goods the most.
"Because the island of Dominica, particularly most of their food is grown under the ground, but with the hurricane, they have already used all of that so now they're asking for things like rice, tin goods, and stuff like this," he said.
Jno-Finn said he's happy with the community support. He's familiar with what people in the Caribbean have been going through.
"I feel good about the support that I'm getting, mainly church members who are supportive. I was in a hurricane, Hurricane David 1979, and I remember being at the bottom of a church with no beds and we just cooked like a family, 50 to 60 people," he said.
All donations will go to help people in the U.S. Virgin Islands and the island of Dominica.
The relief center located on 5970 Mt. View Road will accept donations every day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
