An early morning fire destroyed a home, displaced a family of ten, and injured one man.
Officials said the fire broke out at a home in the 5200 block of Illinois Avenue before 3 a.m. Sunday.
The district fire chief confirmed the fire was being considered suspicious, and the flames seemed to have started in the kitchen on the second floor.
A family of ten, including four children, had been living on the first floor, and they were able to get out of the home safely. They were being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The man living on the second floor suffered third degree burns, but officials said his injuries were non-life threatening.
"The guy upstairs is extremely lucky, he was lucky to get out and then the people downstairs were lucky that the guy had enough sense to go downstairs and get them out," said District Fire Chief Larry Jackson.
Firefighters had the fire contained within 15 minutes. The second floor was destroyed according to those on scene, and due to heavy smoke and water damage, the first floor was rendered unlivable.
The fire marshal has been called in to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities said the home did not have smoke alarms.
