A suspect was fatally shot by officers in Decatur County after allegedly robbing a convenience store.

Officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Charles Dove of Jackson was shot and killed on Highway 641, just south of Interstate 40 West.

They believe he robbed a Marathon gas station right off the exit around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

He was spotted at 2:30 a.m. and officers tried to set up a moving roadblock. However, he allegedly ran off the road.

Authorities believe his vehicle was stolen from Lexington, Tennessee.

Five officers were involved, however, it’s unclear at this time how many fired their weapons.

Sky 5 aerials of the scene showed a wrecked car on the side of the road. Its back windshield had been shattered.

A firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle according to TBI spokesperson Susan Niland.

We ran a background check on Dove.

He's been in prison before. His charges range from aggravated robbery to assaulting police and evading arrest.

Neighbors said the Marathon right off exit 126 is frequented by truckers and vehicles.

Mack Mcclelland said, "I'm surprised that anyone would attempt a robbery in a place like this. I'm surprised he even made it through. Most of us carry guns here… we have to."

No officers were injured and the clerk wasn't hurt during the alleged robbery.

Mcclelland said, "They have families and children and wives just like everyone else. And they're out there every day protecting us and  that's exactly what we have to have in this county anyway."

The Decatur County Sheriff has not released the names or identities of the officers involved in the shooting.
