Two men have been arrested and were being held accountable in the death of a 12-year-old boy.
Officials said the death happened on June 28, 2015 when the two men, identified as 25-year-old Joshua A. Woods and 28-year-old Kenneth Starks, began setting off artillery firework shells on Lewis Street in J.C. Napier homes. Authorities said 12-year-old Antonio Braden was killed.
An investigation led to the indictments against Woods and Starks. They have been charged with reckless homicide and reckless endangerment.
Braden had been with a group of juveniles who were shooting off fireworks when Woods and Starks began shooting the artillery shells.
According to reports, Woods said he bought the shells outside of Davidson County.
Officials said the juveniles went to watch when Braden allegedly placed a damaged shell in a detonation tube. He held it toward the sky as another juvenile lit the firework causing the shell to explode and fatally wound Braden.
This use of fireworks has been illegal in Davidson County for decades, according to reports.
Authorities said Woods was a convicted felon for aggravated assault and added he was already in custody on a probation violation charge. His bond was set at $150,000.
Police said Starks surrendered at headquarters Wednesday, and his bond was set at $100,000.
