A large crowd enjoyed beautiful music at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center downtown for civil rights.

Sunday night was the 23rd annual "Let Freedom Sing" concert.

Those involved with the concert said it honors the life and legacy, not just of Dr. Martin Luther King, but also of all of those who have fought for civil rights in our community in the past and even today.

Some of the musical selections included "Lift Every Voice and Sing" by J. Rosamond Johnson (arranged by Roland Carter) and "Give Me Your Hand," a traditional song transcribed by John W. Work and arranged by M. Campbelle-Holman.

More tributes to Dr. King have been scheduled to take place Monday, on the official holiday.

Some of those included a march at 10 a.m. starting at Jefferson Street Baptist Church and a convocation at 11 a.m. at Tennessee State University's Gentry Center.
