Officials have confirmed that a second commercial breeding poultry operation in the state has tested positive for the avian flu.
Officials said the confirmation came from a chicken breeding facility located in Giles County, south of Nashville close to the Alabama state line. Reports stated the tests were positive for low pathogenic avian influenza, also known as H7N9 LPAI.
On Sunday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced another farm in southern Tennessee had bird flu. The entire flock of birds in Lincoln County was killed. That farm supplied Tyson foods.
Officials said the latest chicken-breeding operation to be infected was owned by a different company. Investigators said they do not believe that chickens at one farm sickened those at the other facility.
The Giles County chicken flock has been killed and investigators have been testing nearby poultry facilities.
