Families took advantage of the beautiful day for the annual Kids and Kites event.

The purpose behind the fun time was to fight childhood obesity.

People kept busy by flying kites, hoola-hooping, dancing, and running. There was even a one mile walk that Mayor Megan Barry took part in.

In all, about a thousand people came through for the event at Bicentennial Mall.

“The purpose is to get kids and adults moving, and hopefully starting this afternoon right after Kids and Kites, they can continue those same habits throughout their lives because that’s all we want them to do is eat healthy and move,” said Rep. Brenda Gilmore, the co-founder of Kids and Kites.

This was the seventh year for Kids and Kites Day.
