Athletes, Families Rally After A-Game Closure

Following the unexpected closure of A-Game Sportsplex in Cool Springs on Thursday, local hockey, figure skating, and volleyball teams have had to scramble to find places to practice and compete.

Both sides of the controversy have currently been working toward finding a solution, but as of Sunday, no agreement had been reached.

Alliance Volleyball Club Director, Jeff Wismer, had to act quickly to find his athletes a place to practice.

“When the ball goes up, they don’t care where they are, they just want to play,” Wismer said.

Thanks to Harpeth Hall High School, 29 teams were able to practice over the weekend, amid confusion surrounding the closure of A-Game Sportsplex.

Sports Land Group, LLC., who owns A-Game Sportsplex, has put forward a proposal to reopen A-Game Sportsplex until the end of March, but the group would still sell the complex under the deal.

A-Game Sportsplex has multiple long-term agreed upon leases that go well beyond the end of the year, leaving the groups with plenty of questions and few answers.

“We’re going day-by-day,” Abbey West of Alliance Volleyball Club said. “We have a tournament coming up this weekend, so we’re just working to find some more venues to put our courts down.”

West spent part of last week in Colorado Springs at the Olympic Training Center for volleyball, and she said at the training center, many preached adversity, and that’s a message she’s now passing along to her players.

“Let’s embrace the adversity, and let’s embrace it like a challenge and let it fuel us instead of control us,” West said.

The volleyball club has had multiple businesses reach out to the members offering help, but the club still hasn’t found a permanent solution.

Alliance Volleyball Club has been hoping they can meet with the ownership group of Sports Land Group, LLC., to talk about a solution in the near future.
