Body Recovered After Suspicious House Fire

Posted

A body was recovered from the remnants of a charred home after an early morning fire in east Nashville. The blaze has been ruled suspicious.

The incident happened early Tuesday morning at a vacant home on Cleveland Street, not far from Dickerson Pike.

Nashville fire crews were called to the home and found intense flames shooting from the roof. Neither the cause nor the origin of the blaze was known.

Because there was no electricity running to the home, the fire has been deemed suspicious.

After extinguishing the blaze, crews recovered a body around 4 a.m. at back of home. Firefighters said the body was too badly burned to determine the person’s gender.

Two additional homes were also affected by the blaze and sustained damage.

Karla Bunch lives next door and said she was thankful she woke up just in time.

“I would have to say it’s God that woke me because in my mind I heard something say ‘get up,’” she said. “When I looked out my bedroom window, which is adjacent to the home on fire, all I saw was an orange light and I felt the heat and saw the flames.”

No one in the neighboring homes was hurt. The American Red Cross was dispatched to help those in need.
