Boy Scouts Place Flags At Veterans' Graves

Posted

Boy Scouts all over Middle Tennessee started their holiday weekend honoring the men and women Memorial Day was named for.

At the National Cemetery in Madison, nearly 2,000 scouts and their families went from grave to grave, placing a flag in front of each one.

Local boy scouts from dozens of different troops came to participate in the annual tradition.

Organizers said it was a good way to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day and teach kids an important lesson.

“They are learning that this holiday is not about three-day weekends,” said Mike Seibert, Troop 413 Scout Master. “It’s about honoring fallen soldiers for our country and for our freedom.”

“It’s important because they fought, and they gave their lives to give us freedom and the right to live,” said Joshua Seibert, a boy scout.

Organizers said the scouts placed around 35,000 flags at the Madison cemetery Saturday morning.
