A south Nashville business owner and a friend were able to stop an alleged burglar from breaking into a building.

The incident happened overnight at Export Auto Sales on Nolensville Pike.

The two men had returned to the business late Tuesday to drop off the owner to his car.

His friend, Zouhir Elmaliki, said the suspect was on his phone and appeared to be getting directions.

They immediately called police when they saw the suspect trying to kick down the door.

When they tried to stop him, Elmaliki said he reached for his back, as if he was about to pull out a weapon.

“You want to go out with your kids family and be safe anytime,” he said. “You can't worry about where you're going and what time you're leaving.”

Zouhir said they went to the other side of the store to hide from the man.

Police arrived in seconds to take him into custody. His name was not known.
