It was a tough day for many people who have lost their children to crime as they came together for a ceremony.
Violent crimes brought them all to Centennial Park Sunday afternoon.
A ceremony for victims and their families held there was part of the Davidson County Crime Victims' Rights Week.
This year's theme was “Serving Victims; Building Trust; Restoring Hope.”
“I don't want to see other parents, or family members, or friends go through the same thing that I’ve seen my family and friends go through,” said Tyron Smith, a father. “We need to learn how to talk it out. As far as our kids and our youth, I don’t know what needs to be done, but if steps like this can be taken to prevent it, I’m going to be here every time more than happy and more than willing to help with that cause.”
Eleven new names were added to the Children's Memorial Garden.
The ceremony ended with a balloon release from that area.
