HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A Tennessee man led Kentucky State Police on a pursuit after driving through a highway checkpoint.
Officers were working the checkpoint along US 41 near Hopkinsville on Saturday night when a motorist swerved out of his lane and through the checkpoint.
State police said in a release that officers had to move from the car's path as it accelerated toward Hopkinsville. Officers pursued the car, and the driver, identified as 31-year-old Carlos Washington, stopped fleeing on an exit off the Pennyrile Parkway.
He was taken into custody and charged with drunken driving, wanton endangerment of a police officer, and six other charges.
Washington, of Clarksville, was taken into custody and lodged in the Christian County Jail.
