A convicted murderer caught in a drug sting allegedly attacked two police officers, but he didn't get away.
According to reports, the incident started on Tuesday around 5 p.m. at a Shell gas station in the 3100 block of Dickerson Pike.
Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said they saw a man who seemed nervous and kept checking his phone and the entrance to the parking lot. He did not conduct any business there, according to police.
The man then left the gas station, and authorities followed him to the parking lot of High Five Sports bar in the 300 block of West Trinity Lane.
Then the suspect arrived. Officials said the suspect, later identified as Marcelius Dominique Russ, drove another man to the bar’s parking lot with reports his passenger was there to distribute heroin to the man first seen at the gas station.
Authorities said they witnessed the drug transaction on Trinity Lane.
As they moved in, Russ’ passenger got back inside the vehicle, and Russ reportedly put the vehicle in drive and tried to flee from the scene. He allegedly rammed the squad cars with his vehicle, but stalled out.
Officers were not injured and quickly moved in. The men involved were taken into custody.
Police said they found drugs, cash, and a gun.
Russ was charged with possession with intent for schedule 1. He was also charged with having the handgun.
According to previous records, Russ had a prior second degree murder conviction from 2012, along with an aggravated robbery conviction from 2010, both in Davidson County.
