The man accused of killing the great niece of country legend Johnny Cash was back in court Thursday as his lawyers made a last ditch effort to have prosecutors thrown off the case before it goes to a jury in just over a week.
Wayne Mascieralla has been accused of killing 23-year-old Courtney Cash at her home in Baxter. Authorities found her body inside of a box at her residence in 2014.
Courtney's young child and boyfriend Austin Johnson were also present at the time of the attack.
On Thursday, the judge in the case ruled against defense attorneys who wanted Putnam County District Attorneys thrown off the case for what he called a conflict of interest.
The case has been set to go before a jury on August 1.
