A Hendersonville home was destroyed when an early morning fire broke out at the residence.

The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. Thursday at a home on Hillsdale Drive, not far from Vietnam Veterans Boulevard.

Officials on the scene said the couple woke up to the sound of cracking and popping noises. They realized their home was on fire and called 911.

The cause of the blaze was not yet known.

The inside of the home appeared to be nearly gutted by the fire. The roof was also virtually gone.

Officials have placed tape around the structure while the investigation continues.

The home next door also suffered damage to its exterior vinyl.
