Security experts at Nashville International Airport used a stopwatch to test wait times against the number of prohibited items found.
They gave two demonstrations Friday. In the first round, they sent ten people through a checkpoint line with no prohibited items.
That took 2 minutes and 13 seconds.
Then they did another run to show how prohibited items slow down the line.
They had a Sprite bottle, a pocket knife, and a mock firearm, as well as a passenger not checking a laptop in their bag.
The total time for the round with prohibited items came to 6 minutes and 46 seconds.
Those with BNA said the small disruptions from prohibited items could have a large effect on wait times over an hour.
