Superhero fans rejoiced for free comic book day.
Retailers all over the country observed the holiday the first weekend in May.
The Great Escape in Nashville was one of the stores taking part in the event.
“We have plenty to offer here, so just look around and you'll find something you want to read and you can't go wrong if it's free!” said Jonathan Richardson, co-manager of The Great Escape.
It all started back in 2001 when a comic book retailer in California saw the success of comic-based movies and decided to expose moviegoers to the stories and illustrations that inspired the films.
The Great Escape was set to reopen at 11 a.m. Sunday.
