Two family pets were killed in an overnight fire that destroyed a mobile home in Wilson County.

The incident happened shortly before midnight Monday at a residence in the 1100 block of Needmore Road in Old Hickory.

A homeowner in Old Hickory is lucky to be alive after his sister woke him up as his home was on fire. The fire destroyed it and killed his cat and dog. The cause is still under investigation.

The blaze seems to have originated in the bottom corner of the home.

Heavy flames quickly consumed the rest of the home and destroyed it in a matter of minutes.

The homeowner was asleep at the time when his sister, who's also his next-door neighbor, called him and said to get out immediately.

They tried to extinguish the fire, but it was just too late.

“He was hurt because the [fire] killed his dog and cat that was in the house, and he had done all this remodeling inside the trailer,” said his sister, Teresa Clemmons. “He was hurt losing his home. He was proud of that.”

Clemmons said her brother will stay with her until they figure out what to do next.

The cause was still under investigation.
