A hydroponics center in Nashville was targeted overnight by thieves who got away with high-powered grow lights.
Officials with Metro Nashville Police said the suspects broke into the Nashville Hydroponics Garden Center around 2:30 a.m. Monday.
The suspects reportedly smashed their way into the business on Bonnabrook Drive by breaking the front window. A security system was installed, but it wasn’t able to deter the thieves.
“It makes it more retail friendly having a nice glass store front, but then this happens and something has to be done,” said owner Michael Zuercher.
The only items taken were two, powerful grow lights valued at $1200.
Hydroponics is a method of growing plants using gravel or liquid instead of soil.
The stolen lamps could turn up in an illegal grow operation, perhaps helping to cultivate an illegal crop such as marijuana.
The case remains under investigation.
