Investigators said they’re following leads to identify the driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a motorcyclist critically injured.

Authorities with the Metro Nashville Police Department said 39-year-old Norman Hughes was critically injured in the crash that happened at the intersection of Myatt Drive and State Route 45 around 9:50 p.m. Saturday.

According to reports, Hughes was riding a 2006 Harley Davidson when he collided with the driver of a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu.

The preliminary investigation showed the Malibu was traveling southbound on Myatt Drive when it crossed over State Route 45 and hit the motorcycle.

Police said it appeared Hughes had been heading north on Myatt Drive and was attempting to turn left toward Gallatin Pike.

Authorities said it was unknown who had the right of way.

The driver of the Malibu drove away after the wreck and was pursued by a witness. The driver then got out of the vehicle on Lanier Drive and fled on foot.

The registered owner of the Malibu has been interviewed and has not been considered a suspect.

Hughes was not wearing a helmet certified by the Department of Transportation. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition.

Officials said there was no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement at the scene on the part of Hughes.
