An intruder was injured after being shot when he broke into a home.

Officials said the incident happened in the 1700 block of Cumberland Station Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Five people were living inside the home when a man walked up to the door and kicked it in after receiving no answer when he knocked.

One person inside allegedly grabbed a shotgun and shot the intruder in the stomach.

The suspect was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His was listed as stable and expected to survive.

Of the five people inside the home, police said they detained one who was acting unruly when officers arrive on scene.

Authorities added when they were attempting to figure out who was a victim and who was a suspect, the man they detained was yelling at them and interfering with the investigation.

That man was also taken to the hospital to be checked out for injuries.

Detectives said they were investigating who the shotgun belonged to.

Officials confirmed the intruder and homeowner were acquaintances.

The investigation was ongoing.
