A man has been arrested in Coffee County after allegedly killing another man over a dog.
The incident happened around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 900 block of A Street in Hillsboro.
Officials with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department received information of a possible homicide, and when patrolmen arrived on the scene, a man, later identified as 48-year-old Vincent John Elliott, Jr., gave them permission to search the property.
Authorities said they found a man’s body covered in numerous items outside of the home. The victim appeared to be in his late 40’s or early 50’s.
Elliott allegedly confessed to why he killed the man after not cooperating at first, and he was arrested.
According to reports, Elliott said he killed the man over an altercation about Elliott’s dog. Elliott also told officials he killed him by beating and shooting him.
The victim’s identity had not been released.
Elliott was charged with first degree murder with no bond set at this time.
He was scheduled to appear in Coffee County General Sessions court Thursday.
