A man has been arrested in Coffee County on multiple charges, including DUI and evading arrest.
Officials with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office said they arrested 34-year-old Alford Lazo, Jr., of Murfreesboro, Thursday afternoon.
Authorities said they received a call of a man allegedly impaired and passed out in his car at Sonic.
Lazo then left that area and drove to Old Bushy Branch Road while officials pursued him.
He stopped, and an officer with the Manchester Police Department got his identification. Lazo then took off and led officials on a pursuit.
The pursuit ended in a crash and Lazo was taken into custody, but only for a short time.
Authorities confirmed Lazo escaped from the rear of the patrol car, got into the front, and drove away.
A second chase ensued where Lazo allegedly attempted to hit multiple officers with the vehicle before crashing into a field.
Officials confirmed three county vehicles were damaged, one extensively, and the Manchester police vehicle the suspect drove was heavily damaged along with another vehicle from the second pursuit.
According to reports, Coffee County Investigator Kerry Farrar was injured in the incident. That official was treated and released from Unity Medical Center.
Lazo was charged with DUI, a third offense of driving on a revoked license, escape, evading arrest, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, theft of property, vandalism, violation of the implied consent law, violation of probation, and three attachment warrants. He was also facing a parole violation, and other charges were pending.
Lazo was being held on a $177,100 bond and has been set to appear in court April 28.
